Volunteering for Sisters at Law

Do you, like us, feel passionate about women’s and children’s rights? Are you looking for an opportunity to help the community in Sri Lanka? Or are you a student who wants to hone their skills in an NGO? We would love to hear from you! There are many ways to volunteer for Sisters at Law and we have opportunities for both Sri Lankan and international volunteers.

Our work wouldn’t be possible without the hard work of our many volunteers. Some have been with us for many years and some come to support us for a short time. Regardless if you have specialist skills in law or fundraising, or you can bring an overall can-do attitude, your support would be invaluable.

For international volunteers, we can offer support with visa applications and accommodation. We have previously hosted volunteers from countries such as Germany, USA and China who have worked with women at shelters, taught English and also got to explore Sri Lanka. We have recently also partnered with AIESEC.

Volunteering with Sisters-at-Law has been an incredibly rewarding experience. The sense of community and purpose is palpable, and the impact we make together is truly inspiring. The support and camaraderie among volunteers make every effort worthwhile. I feel privileged to be part of such a dedicated and passionate team.

During my time with SaL, I’ve had the opportunity to work on valuable projects that have directly benefited the community we support. Whether it’s organizing workshops, or simply being there to listen, every moment has been meaningful. I’ve gained invaluable skills, built lasting relationships, and witnessed firsthand the difference we can make in people’s lives. The guidance and mentorship I’ve received from the more experienced volunteers have been instrumental in my personal and professional growth. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to such a noble cause.

It’s really a life changing experience that I have ever had. As a student studying in gender education, I am really concerned about women’s education rights and eager to help more girls to be educated. Sisters at Law just provides me this great opportunity to do it.

I want to extend great thanks for Mrs. Marini de Livera and our lovable, selfless teammates. I remember the first day I came, I was warmly welcomed by Mrs. Marini and all of the girls, which made me flattered. After spending more time with them, I just felt at home. Everyday I enjoyed the time working with the dedicated team and playing with the girls. We danced and sang together. I realized that it was love that brought us together. I got so much power and inspiration from our excellent chairperson Mrs. Marini. It’s madam Marini’s tremendous kindness and love that makes our organization operate well. I was astonished when I knew that she provided pro bono work. It really helped a lot of women and girls to rebuild their lives.

Now I want to pass on the love I got from Sisters at Law and study further on women’s education. Hopefully, one day I can establish a women’s organization to support more underprivileged girls as well.

When I was introduced to Mrs. Marini de Livera, the chairperson of Sisters at Law, little did I know how profoundly this encounter would impact me. Seeking assistance with my academics, I was warmly welcomed by Mrs. de Livera and her dedicated team of volunteers. Their genuine hospitality instantly made me feel at home. As I collaborated with this remarkable group, my academic needs were met, but the experience offered so much more. I had the privilege of participating in various impactful projects, such as the Autism Day Awareness program in collaboration with the E.A.S.E Foundation. Engaging in these initiatives and other legal matters provided me with invaluable experiences as a law undergraduate. Over the past few months, I’ve observed firsthand the immense dedication and hard work each member invests in their mission. Their unwavering commitment to creating a better future for women in society is truly inspiring. This journey with Sisters at Law has enriched my academic pursuits and broadened my perspective, instilling a deep sense of purpose and community.
